Audio #1
Maitre D: Good evening. Can I help you?
Martin: Yes. We have a reservation. The name is Baxter.
Maitre D: Ah, yes. Here it is. A patio table for two at 8:00. Your table will be ready in a minute. The busboy is just clearing it right now. Would you like to have a seat in the lounge while you wait?
Martin: Yes, that would be fine.
Maitre D: Your table is ready. Please follow me.
Ellen: Oh, this is very nice. Thank you.
Maitre D: Here are your menus. Your waiter will be right with you.
Waiter: Good evening. Would you like a beverage to start?
Martin: Yes. I’ll have a martini and my wife will have a glass of white wine.
Waiter: Here you are. I’d like to tell you about our dinner features for this evening. For an appetizer, we have shrimp sautéed in garlic butter. Our entrée of the evening is rack of lamb served with mashed potatoes, and for dessert, a lemon torte with blueberry sauce. I’ll come back in a few minutes to take your order, and I’ll bring you some hot bread just out of the oven.
Martin: Thank you.

Ellen: Rare, please.
Waiter: Would you like rice or potatoes with your steak?
Ellen: What kind of potatoes do you have?
Waiter: Baked, mashed, or French fries.
Ellen: I’ll have baked, please.
Waiter: And for you, sir?
Martin: I’ll have the salmon with rice, please.
Waiter: Would you like an appetizer to start?
Martin: We’ll have a salad to share.
Waiter: What kind of dressing would you like on the salad?
Martin: We’ll have oil and vinegar.
Waiter: Fine. And would you like to
order dessert now as well?
Martin: Sure. I’ll have the apple pie.
Ellen: And I’ll have the chocolate torte.
Waiter: Any beverages with your dessert?
Martin: I’ll have a decaf coffee.
Ellen: And I’ll have tea.
Waiter: I’ll put your order in right away. Can I get you another glass of wine or another martini?
