Audios
Difficulty: Intermediate (B1)
Audio #1 Customs & Border Protection
Customs Officer: Welcome to the United States. Where are you from?
Martin: We’re from Canada.
Customs Officer: May I see your passports, please?
Martin: Here you are.
Customs Officer: What is the purpose of your visit to the United States?
Martin: It’s a pleasure trip.
Customs Officer: And where will you be staying while you’re here?
Martin: We’ll be at the Park Inn in Manhattan.
Customs Officer: Do you have anything to declare today?
Martin: No, we don’t.
Customs Officer: May I see the customs declaration form the flight attendant gave you on the plane?
Martin: Here it is.
Customs Officer: Are you bringing any alcohol or tobacco products into the country?
Martin: No, we aren’t.
Customs Officer: How long will you be staying in the States?
Martin: One week.
Customs Officer: Okay, folks. Here you go. I’ve stamped your passports. Have a nice holiday.
Martin: Thank you.
Audio #2
Ellen: I’ve got our garment bag, but I don’t think our suitcase arrived. The carousel has stopped and no more bags are coming out.
Martin: Let’s go to the lost luggage
counter and report it missing.
Airline Representative: Can I help you?
Martin: Yes. We just arrived on flight 241 and one of our bags didn’t come. It looks like all the luggage from our flight has already been unloaded.
Airline Representative: May I see your baggage claim, please?
Martin: Here it is.
Airline Representative: Thank you. Can you describe the bag, please?
Ellen: It’s a medium-sized, light green suitcase.
Airline Representative: Did your other bag arrive?
Martin: Yes, it did. It’s right here. The suitcase is the same color as this garment bag.
Airline Representative: Okay, let me check the computer. I’ll put a trace on it. Hmm… Okay. I see it arrived in Chicago, but it wasn’t put on your connecting flight. We have another flight in at 2:30. We can have it delivered as soon as it arrives. Can you please complete this lost luggage form with your name, address of where you’ll be staying here in New York, and a phone number where we can get in touch with you?
Martin: Okay.
Airline Representative: Here’s a copy of your lost luggage report. If there’s any problem, you can contact us at the number at the top of this form. I think your bag should probably be at your hotel by dinnertime.
Ellen: Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
Airline Representative: Have a good afternoon.
Martin: Thank you.
