Difficulty: Intermediate (B1)

Audio #1 Checking in

Airline Agent: Good morning. Where are you traveling to today?

Martin: We’re going to New York. Here’s our confirmation.

Airline Agent: May I see some ID, please?

Martin: Yes. Here are our passports.

Airline Agent: Thank you. How many bags will you be checking today?

Martin: We have one suitcase and one garment bag to check. My wife also has a
carry-on bag and I have my computer.

Airline Agent: Have you put luggage tags on all of them, Mr. Baxter?

Martin: Yes.

Airline Agent: Did you pack the bags yourselves?

Martin: Yes, we did.

Airline Agent: And have you left the bags unattended at all since you packed them?

Martin: No, we haven’t.

Airline Agent: Okay. Here are your boarding passes, Mr. Baxter. You’ll be boarding at 7:30 through Gate D. You’ll have to change terminals when you get to Chicago for your connecting flight, but your bags will be checked right through to New York. I’ve attached your baggage claim to your boarding pass.

Martin: Thank you.

Airline Agent: You should probably go through security now. It’s quite busy today.

Martin: Okay. We’ll do that.

Airline Agent: Have a good fligh

Audio #2

Security Officer: ID and boarding passes, please.

Martin: Here you are.

Security Officer: Could you please take off your jacket and shoes and put them in the screening bin? Empty your pockets and put any coins, keys, or other metal items in a bin as well. Your laptop will also have to go through the X-ray machine.

Martin: Okay.

Security Officer: Are you carrying any liquids, gels, or lotions?

Ellen: I have a small tube of toothpaste, some eye makeup, and lipstick in my purse, but they’re in a small, plastic zip-top bag.

Security Officer: Let me have a look. Okay. Those are each less than three
ounces. They’re fine. Put the bag in the bin with your purse.

Ellen: Okay. Here you go. Martin, you can go through the metal detector first.

Security Officer: Please remove your belt, sir. The buckle might set off the metal detector. Okay, ma’am. Your husband is finished. You can go through now. Have a nice day
